Starting on the Tuckaseegee River of Western North Carolina, Adam Masters and Jamie MacLeod will provide all of the gear and instruction necessary to become a skilled prone river paddler. During this six week series we will progress onto iconic WNC rivers such as the Lower Nolichucky, French Broad section 9 and Pigeon River Gorge.
Syllabus
Day 1: Tuckaseegee or Lower Nolichucky depending on flows
What we will learn:
-River safety
-Basic paddle strokes
-Rolling and remounting the Bellyak
-Basic river reading
-Entering and Exiting Eddy’s
Day 2: French Broad Section 9 or Lower Nolichucky depending on flows
What we will learn:
-River safety
-Re emphasize paddle strokes, remounts and rolling
-Focus on catching eddy’s
-Focus on river ferrying
Day 3: French Broad Section 9
What we will learn:
-River Safety
-Surfing and playboating
Day 4: French Broad Section 9
What we will learn:
-River Safety
-Advanced surfing and boat control
-Advanced River Running, ferries, eddys
Day 5: Pigeon River
What we will learn:
-River Safety
-Use the skills we have learned thus far to run class III+
-Scouting Rivers
Day 6: Pigeon River
-River Safety
-Advanced III+ river running
